Description

Information processing and media literacy are intertwined with personal values and ethics. This activity is designed to help participants understand their personal traits better regarding the information processing and perceiving activity can be performed in groups as well as an individual assignment.

Introduction (10 minutes)

The facilitator opens the activity by explaining the rules and procedures of the activity. The participants are either divided into teams of 2-3 people or work individually. The facilitators assist the participants to choose an on-line platform – Google Sites, Padlet, Canva, etc. - on which to develop an on-line ScrapBook.

Elaboration of On-line ScrapBooks (30 minutes)

The participants need to agree on a common theme for the ScrapBook – this could be a particular important event (such as “Preparing for 2024 Olympic Games in Paris”) or a particular period (such as “My 2023 in images and events”).
After the theme is chosen, each participant/team is requested to prepare a collage of published on-line images, news reports, articles, posts, videos, etc. that best depict their interpretation of the theme and to craft a narrative around the selected images and content.

Showcasing the on-line Scrapbooks (15 minutes)

Once the scrapbooks are complete, the participants are requested to present them in front of the audience. The audience is expected to review the choice of materials for scrapbooks and ask questions about why these materials were chosen and how they reflect the values/perceptions of the ScrapBook authors.

Debriefing (5 minutes)

The facilitator wraps up the discussion by asking the participants to reflect on the relevance and appropriateness of content and design choices for the on-line ScrapBooks as well as the quality and trustworthiness of the used digital sources.
