Create a »Me Tree« (IMS-M6-01-EN)
Objectives
- Students reflect on their unique characteristics, beliefs, and values, and on the network of people around them.
Target group(s)
- First-liners
Description
1. Each student should have a piece of A4 paper and a pen or pencil. They are instructed to place their hand on the paper and draw the shape of their hand on the paper, but leaving open the fingertips. The hand symbolizes the trunk of a tree and the students should draw more branches stemming from the fingers to create the shape of a tree. Then, they should draw some leaves (big enough to write something in it) and some soil at the bottom.
2. Next, they are invited to think about their own characteristics and values and write those in the leaves. Next, they should write some things they are grateful for in the trunk of the tree. Finally, the soil of the drawing should be filled with people the students feel supported by.
3. When everyone has finished their drawings and there is still time, added value to the activity would be to allow each student to shortly present their tree to the group.
