  • Stimulation of critical thinking and self-reflection

Target group(s)

  • First-liners

Description

This activity takes place in three phases:

1. Students are presented with scenarios or dilemmas and are invited to think about it individually (how would they handle the situation, why, …?). Let the students analyze potential outcomes, pros and cons, and reflect on influencing factors. The teacher gives the students a sheet of paper where the scenario is written out and where some questions are asked to guide their thinking. This activity stimulates critical thinking and self-reflection and encourages them to consider consequences of decisions.

The scenarios provided are about negative online experiences, such as witnessing cyberbullying, online hate, encountering potential harmful disinformation.

2. After individual reflection, pair students so they can discuss. Did they come to similar conclusions? What were the differences? Why did they think about different things?

3. End the activity with a group discussion to encourage collective discussion.
